MJM Recruit has partnered with a successful family-owned manufacturing business with an annual turnover of approximately $10 million and a strong reputation for quality, service and long-standing customer relationships.

As the business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to work closely with the Managing Director and lead the next stage of operational improvement and business growth.

This role is ideal if you have worked within a small to medium-sized business and understand how to balance strategic thinking with a hands-on approach.

You will spend time on the factory floor, work alongside staff and team leaders, improve systems and processes, create structure where required, while building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the MD, you will take ownership of the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring production, people, systems, quality, safety, and performance are aligned to support future growth.

A key focus of the role will be identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, implementing practical processes and procedures, developing clear position descriptions and responsibilities, ensuring teams are supported and accountable for delivering results.

You’re Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily manufacturing and operational activities to ensure productivity, quality, and customer expectations are achieved
• Review, improve, and document business processes, systems, and workflows
• Develop and implement SOPs, position descriptions, and accountability frameworks
• Lead, mentor, and support supervisors, team leaders, and operational staff
• Monitor operational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives
• Manage production planning, inventory, procurement, and supplier relationships
• Analyse operational costs, budgets, and business performance
• Drive budget performance through effective cost control, resource planning, and operational accountability
• Champion workplace health, safety, and compliance standards while maintaining a safe, well-organised facility
• Promote a strong culture of quality, teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement
• Work closely with the MD to support business planning and growth initiatives

About You

Are you a hands-on Operations Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Production Manager, or similar leader who enjoys improving businesses, developing people, and creating structure that drives results?

Do you have:

• Proven experience in an Operations Management role within a manufacturing environment?
• Experience working in a small to medium-sized business where adaptability and initiative are essential?
• Strong process improvement and systems implementation experience?
• The ability to build accountability and performance across teams?
• Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills?
• Commercial and financial acumen with the ability to make sound business decisions?
• A practical, roll-up-your-sleeves approach and a genuine desire to improve how a business operates?
